After attending a RainWise workshop, Diane was eager to add cisterns to her yard. She consulted with Aaron Buchholz of Satoyama, who specified two cisterns totaling almost 1,000 gallons. He also asked, would she consider a rain garden too?
When he pointed to the spot he had in mind, Diane realized a rain garden could solve a problem for her. Her front yard features a beautiful faux Egyptian obelisk sculpture, and she’d created a sandy desert around it – which the local cats were using as a big litter box! Now the obelisk is featured in a lovely rain garden instead.
Diane waters her backyard gardens from her 420-gallon round cistern. Out front, her 530-gallon slim-line cistern fits perfectly in a small space between the front porch and the sidewalk. Aaron built a screen in front of the cistern, so it is hardly noticeable.
